Café redesign, Vienna

A local café's outdated one-pager rebuilt as a fast, mobile-first site with online reservations.

Café redesign, Vienna on a laptop
Café redesign, Vienna on a phone

Overview

The café had a one-page site built years earlier and never touched since. It was slow on a phone, the opening hours were wrong, and there was no way to book a table — every reservation arrived by telephone, most of them during service, when the person answering was already carrying plates.

Their customers are not researching at a desk. They are standing on the street within two minutes' walk, deciding between this place and the one across the road, on a phone, on mobile data, with maybe fifteen seconds of patience. A site that takes four seconds to paint has already lost that decision.

So the whole build was aimed at that moment. One short page, no carousel, no hero video, the menu and the address and the booking form reachable without scrolling twice. Images are sized and served at the dimensions they actually display, which is most of what makes a restaurant site slow.

The reservation form writes straight into the calendar the staff already use, because a booking system nobody checks is worse than a telephone.

What we built

  • Most visitors arrive on a phone, so the phone layout came first
  • Online reservations, taken on the site
  • Short page, fast on a slow connection

What it did

  • Reservations arrive through the site instead of the phone during service.
  • Built and live inside the standard two-week website scope.

Let's build it.
